Union Budget 2012-2013 Highlights:
Honorable Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Muharjee has presented the Union Budget for the financial year 2012-2013 in Lok Shaba on 16th March 2012 Friday. Pranab Muharjee played a safe role in presenting the budget with assurance of improvement. Union Budget which was presented by him has few pros and cons to the various industries.
Fiscal Deficit target has been set as 5.1 percent of GDP for the fiscal year which begins in April. This is down from 5.9 percent in the current financial year. Pranab Mugarjee also said he is expected more growth than last year. Borrowing amount has been declared as 4.8 trillion amount in 2012-2013.Expenditure in this new fiscal year will be 14.9 trillion rupees. It is 29 percent upper than the current year.
Pranab Muharjee announced new tax slab for this year in his budget announcement. Tax exemption has been increased to 2 lakhs. But this is lesser than the expected Tax Limit 3 lakh.
Gross tax receipts can be seen at 10.8 trillion rupees in 2012-13. There is a proposal to raise service tax from 10 percent to 12 percent. There is no change in corporate tax rates. He proposes to raise import duty of thermal coal for power plants. Basic custom duty on gold is to be doubled.
Pranab Muharjee said that inflation is to be moderated in next few months and remain stable thereafter. He expected the economical growth at 7.6 percent in 2012-13. The economical growth was expected at 6.9 in 2011-12.
He said we can expect the country to become self-sufficient in urea production in 5years. Raise agricultural credit target in 2012/13 to 5.75 trillion rupees is proposed in budget.
There are lots of proposal in this budget to trim the government’s subsidy burden and for speeding the pace of economic reforms. All over investors are disappointed with this budget.
